Welcome to LampmanLanding.com - - Busby/Busbey Page
I will try to delineate my Busby lineage on these pages with Blue Text. Photo's will also be included. If you land here and find we are related, any assistance in providing more data to help others as well as myself would be greatly appreciated. Use the links to the right to find out more. My fathers mother was a Busby and kept many records which helped me in my search. The Busbeys and Knapps tie together on dad's side.
Descendants of Mathew Busby - First Known Generation
Matthew Busby: From Ireland to the Delaware area to KY
Mathew Busby, Sr. was born about 1754 somewhere in Ireland, possibly in the Londonderry area and died after 1820; per census figures in Kentucky. He married Mrs. Mathew Busby, her maiden name is unknown. She was born Bet. 1751 - 1760, and died after 1830 in Carlisle, Nicolas Co., KY per census records..
Page 242 of a "History of the Pioneer Families of Missouri" by Wm. S. Bryan and Robert Rose, 1876 States:
Mathew Busby of Ireland was a weaver by trade. He came to America and settled first in Delaware, from whence he removed to Bathe Co., KY at an early date. He had seven sons, one of whom James married Nancy Lewis of Delaware, by whom he had eleven children. They are listed on the family page under James and Nancy Lewis Busby. Sons Lewis and James settled in Missouri. The former, Lewis Busby married Eliza McClannahan of Kentucky and settled in Missouri in 1835. <Contributed by Bonnie in Oakland, CA.>
Mathew Busby, Sr. immigrated per the "Pioneer History of Missouri" stated in James Busby's notes, and was a weaver by trade. If Isaac his first grandson was born in 1796, Isaacs father James was born about twenty years earlier, which would be 1775, and Mathew Busby must have been born around 1750 give or take 5 years. Thus the date of 1754 by <Bonnies Family tree. Gaia@aol.com> holds true. Immigrating at an early age as given, usually meant about age fifteen or so. That would have put Mathew in Delaware from about 1769-1779, or after the Revolutionary War ended. While these dates are generalities, obviously some married earlier in life, especially if they were a trademan as Mathew was.
This was the era of Daniel Boone, French and Indian Wars, and much bloodshed in the Kentucky hunting grounds. The Boones were only removed several counties away by todays standards, as there were only four counties at the time. I'm sure Mathew lived in an established village, as a weaver. Much is written on Kentucky during this bloody period of time, and it's amazing many survived. The area of Bathe County is right in the midst of all the carnage of these French and Indian War struggles with these pioneers and the British for control of this land.
There were several Mathew Busbeys and it has been difficult at times to differential them or validate which Mathew Busby a record pertains to. A Mathew Busby born 1770 in Irelend marrired a Mary Cade. There is no connection of relationship here, but it is possible.
1810 Census Nicholas County, KY. Mathew Busby Sr., age is 45+ P.63/line 19 as is his wife.
1820 Census Nicholas County, KY. Mathew Busby Sr., age is 45+ as is his wife.
1830 Census Nicholas County, Ky. Wife of Mathew Sr., age 70-79 living with Charles Busby b. 1851-60.
1830 Census Nicholas County, KY. Mathew missing. Charles is most likely her son but not sure yet.
Mathew had seven sons. James was supposedly born in Delaware or Virginia depending upon sources, as was James' wife Nancy Lewis, who obviously came west to Kentucky during the height of the French & Indian Wars. This was a difficult time and place to live at the least.
