Descendants of Elias Parcher
Generation One
1. ELIAS PARCHER
Elias Parcher was born in 1675 in Greenland, New Hampshire, and died sometime after 1725 in Greenland, New Hampshire. He married GRACE ALLARD August 12, 1789 in Greenland, ME. She was the daughter of JAMES ALLARD and HONOR WALLIS.
Elias is the earliest Parcher ancestor in the United States that can be proven. Elias came into Massachusettes in the 17th century. He soon moved to the Portsmouth region of New Hampshire where his wifes family had settled. Some of his descendants stayed there and some moved further east into southern Maine. So one of the areas of interest is the coastal regions of New Hampshire and Maine. Other descendants migrated to northern Vermont and this is the primary area of interest. Others went into Ohio and Canada.
Elias was living in Greenland, NH when first recorded in 1695. Greenland is on the great bay of the Piscataqua River which flows into the Atantic Ocean. This is the area where many of the early Parchers settled. Grace Allards parents were fisherman at the Isle of Shoals islands in the Atlantic. Graces mothers parents, the Wallis/Wallaces were also fishermen along the Grand Banks of Newfoundland down to Maines shores.
Elias’ parents and place of birth are unknown, and he was most likely the immigrant ancestor. It is suspected that he came from one of the southwest coastal English counties of Devon or Cornwall, like most of the immigrants to New Hampshire. An actual date of birth is unknown also, but based on his marriage and children, it was circa. 1675. His death is unknown or the cause, but was after 1725 and occurred most likely in the Greenland, NH area.
He married Grace Allard on 8/12/1708 in Greenland, NH. She was the daughter of James and Honor (Wallis) Allard and was probably born about 1675 also. James was a fisherman in the Isle of Shoals area.
Elias is first mentioned in the History of Leeds, Maine where his descendants reported he had landed in Gloucester, MA and then removed to Maine. This ties in with the previous mention of immigration from Devon, England, as many fisherman in the Gloucester area came from Devon and Cornwall. There were no permanent settlements in this area, so no records exist. Gloucestor was primarily a fishing location, and as many previous and later immigrants, there trade followed them to the new world.
Elias next shows up as a soldier at Captain Gerrishes in Dover, NH, in a report dated 2/24/1695/6, from Captain John Tuttle to his commanding officers.
In 1695, Elias was in Greenland, NH, just southwest of Portsmouth as one of the residents .

Temperance was born February 09, 1747/48 in Pepperellborough, ME, and died after 1814 in Canada.
From the Parcher Book: 3rd Generation:
Timothy's will was written on December 15, 1807 and entered for probate on 25 May, 1808. He lived in Waterbury, in the County of Chittendon and State of Vermont. He gave to his wife Temperance, the sole use of all the farm on which I now live excepting 50 acres of the west end of same....during her natural life. ...........at the decease of Temperance I give my youngest son Timothy Parcher all the said farm (except sd. 50 acres)....... He also gave his wife all the personal estate, goods and chattels and made hjis wife, Temperance Parcher, his sole executor.
From land deeds on 11 April 1814 mother and son, Temperance and Timothy, sold land to Samuel and Rueben Parcher. The next year on 29 Dec. 1815, Timothy married in Chatham, Lower Canada. No further mention of Temperance was ever found, since she probably went with her youngest son to Canada.5

Generation No. 4
ROBERT PARCHER
Son of (TIMOTHY KEARL GEORGE ELIAS) was born about 1770 in Scarborough, Maine, and died 1814 in Waterbuy, Vermont. He married SARAH STRAW March 18, 1790 in Waterborough, York Co., Massachusettes. Sarah died after 1814 in Waterbuy, Vermont.
A land deed in Waterbury, VT, dated November 6, 1789 shows that Robert Parcher of Waterborough, County of York, State of Massachusettes, (Maine did not become a state until 1820) bought the original land right of Elias Bedford on that date. The History of Waterbury, VT says that he had the first farm in the region. This was the farm that was later owned by C. C. Robinson. In the 1790 Vermont Census in the Robert Parcher family, there were two males 16 and over and 2 females. No Parchers other than Robert were listed in that census. In 1800 there were 2 males under age 10, 1 male over age 26, 1 female under age 10, and 1 female over age 26. By the 1810 census his family had grown considerably -- 4 males under 10, 1 under 16, 1 16-26 and Robert 26 and over. There was also 1 female under 10, 1 female under 16, 1 16-26 and Sarah over 26.
Robert was appointed as a surveyor of property in Waterbury, April 20, 1793. He was named constable on March 1st, 1796 after he bid 3# 6 # for the office. He was on a list of voters and was sworn in as a juror at a town meeting on March 5th, 1810. In the property deeds in Waterbury, there are many listings of property, which he bought and sold.
A petition he signed dated January 12th, 1803 stated, " I do not agree in religious opinion with a majority of the inhabitants of the Congregational Society in this Town." It was received and recorded January 13th, 1803 by Roswell Wells, Town Clerk. Robert apparently did not wish to be a member of the Congregational Church. Whether he joined the Baptist or Methodist church as his brothers had done was not recorded.
On May 24th, 1814 Roberts brother Samuel and Roberts son, David Parcher were appointed executors of the Robert Parcher estate. This appears in Will Book A., page 343. The estate inventory was worth $1,703.00. His estate consisted of his home farm of 1224 acres, and 1/8 part of 50 acres of wild land. Sarah Parcher was the widow and Suzy Tomson and David Parcher were a son and a daughter. Sarah's dower was $350.00 which was 1/3 ofr the $1050.00 the farm's worth. There was reference to other sons and daughters, but no names. This has made it difficult to identify his children.
It appears Sarah (Straw) Parcher remarried after her first husbands death.

Generation No. 5
CYRUS PARCHER (ROBERT, TIMOTHY KEARL , GEORGE , ELIAS) was born January 1791 in Vermont, and died July 07, 1886 in Buckingham, Quebec, Canada. He married ELIZABETH SCHAGEL March 05, 1821 in Presbyterian Church, St. Andrews East, Chatham Township, Quebec, daughter of JACOB SCHAGEL and ELIZABETH DALTON. She was born Abt. 1805, and died November 11, 1889 in Buckingham, Quebec, Canada.
Since Robert Parcher was the only Parcher in Vemont in 1790, and Cyrus was born the following year, he must be Robert,s son. Cyrus was a farmer and served in the "Vaudreuil Loyal Volunteers" Sedentary Militia from the month of 1839. His cousin Betsy who married Thomas Smith were in Chatham, Quebec in 1815, and his aunt Temperence and cousin Timothy sold their Waterbury land in VT., and went to Chatham. There were great forests in the Chatham area, and the making of potash was a good means of making a living.

DAVID PARCHER (ROBERT, TIMOTHY KEARL, GEORGE, ELIAS) was born 1795, and died March 16, 1843 in Waterbury Center, and is buried in the Waterbury Center Cemetery, Vermont. He married SUSANNAH DARLING April 07, 1816 in Waterbury, Vermont.
Another daughter listed as Philo, who died young from ((brenda geselman <bgeselman@yahoo.com>).
The will of David is in book L, page 202. His home farm consisted of 124 acres. The farm was sold to a John Bickford, dated July 18th, 1846, subject to the right of Sally Hill, the Dower, wife of Robert Parcher. The final account was made July 24th, 1846 accounting to $2865.10. Josiah (known by records and I have a picture of him as Sia), his son was the administrator.7 According to the 1850 census, Susannah was living with Josiah and his family.
Children of DAVID PARCHER and SUSANNAH DARLING are:
i. ANN6 PARCHER, born Waterbury, Vermont married a Mr. PRESCOTT, and died in Wisconsin. Most likely in Marquette County, Harris Township, Wiscsonsin. Ann lived in Harrisville, WI. In her fathers estate it mentioned an Ann Prescott, other notes say she married a Sawyer, possible first marriage. She was listed as living in Mukwonago, Wisconsin Territory before Wisconsin attained statehood in 1848. .

Generation No. 6
JOSIAH PARCHER (DAVID, ROBERT, TIMOTHY KEARL, GEORGE, ELIAS) was born November 07, 1820 in Waterbury, VT, and died November 27, 1890 in Waterbury, VT. He married MEHITABLE M. (Known as Sia per Zelda Lampmans data and Parcher book.)
Burial: Waterbury Center Cemetery, Waterbury, VT
MEHITABLE M. was known as Hattie for short.
Children of JOSIAH PARCHER and MEHITABLE M. are:
i. ABBA7 PARCHER, b. December 1849.
ii. CALISTA G. PARCHER, b. 1850; d. November 25, 1890; married a WILLIAM F. BRACKETT who was b. October 09, 1844.
iii. DAVID PARCHER, born1854.
Josiah, Calista his daughter and son David visited his sister Sarah Hannah (Parcher) Vanderzee in Winona Co., Minnesota per manuscript of Sarah’s daughter (See attachment).
SARAH HANNAH PARCHER (DAVID, ROBERT, TIMOTHY KEARL, GEORGE, ELIAS) was born August 12, 1822 in Waterbury, Washington Co., VT, and died February 26, 1912 in Souix Pass, Montana. She married Dr. STORM ANDREW VAN DER ZEE August 11, 1847 in Mukwonago, Waukesha Co., WI, son of STORM VANDERZEE and LAURA VANDERBILT. He was born August 12, 1824 in New Baltimore, Greene Co., N.Y., and died November 20, 1896 in Utica, Winona Co., MN.8
Sarah was a schoolteacher first in New York State and later in Wisconsin where she had moved to with her sister Ann. Two notes say her maiden name was Parker, as best I can read it. Date of death disagrees with Zelda Lampmans records 1822-1912. ? Unsure. Paul Roy Knapp lists death date as 3-1912 at Souix Pass, Montana. Death date given to Roy by Amelia Ellis, a daughter.
I HAVE A PARCHER BOOK FROM WHEN THE FIRST PARCHER CAME TO AMERICA. IT HAS A DAVID PARCHER AND SUSANNAH DARLING, BOTH BURIED IN WATERBURY CENTER CEMETARY. DAVID WAS BORN 1795, DIED 16 MARCH 1843, HE GOT MARRIED ON 7 APR 1816. THEY HAD TWO CHILDREN: SIA (JOSIAH) SISTER ? PHILO DAVID PARCHER ALSO LEFT A WILL
Clara Irene Knapp, mother of Zelda (Busby) Lampman, daughter of Mary Silena (Vanderzee) Knapp, said “that they were related to the Vanderbilts out east,” not verified as of yet, as her grandmother (Sarah Hannah Vanderzee) who raised her was a Parcher. Storms mother was a Laura Van DerBilt per family bible records and manuscript by Amelia Ellis, but is an unverified records.
Since residents of Northern Vermont and the border counties of Quebec had mostly ignored the War of 1812 because of "family ties", perhaps the Vermonters were not opposed when they made such moves.
1855 Census WI Waukesha Co., lists family on page 3 for Mukwonago Township or Town.
